A conversation between black clergy and the LGBT community in Columbus began Friday with a poignant documentary, The New Black, that explored the intersection of race and sexual orientation in American society.
“Shankeia Pollard, one of the local organizers of Friday’s event, said the conversation with black clergy is just the beginning, and she hopes the community will continue the dialogue. ”I think things today exceeded my expectations,” she said.
“People were true to themselves and honest with their opinions, perspectives and beliefs. Initially, that was my concern, whether we would be able to have a civil conversation when we feel so passionate about religion, sexuality and that sort of thing. But overall, it was really a good presentation and a good conversation.”
